Why Our Teas Are Listed as Zero Carbs

Looking for a delicious, low-carb treat? Every tea and tisane in the Witches Brew collection is listed at 0g carbohydrates on the label — and here's why.

The Magic of Steeping

When you steep loose leaf tea, you're extracting flavor, aroma, and beneficial compounds into your cup. What you're not extracting are the carbohydrates locked inside the plant material itself. The leaves, herbs, dried fruits, and spices stay in your muslin bag or infuser — and so do their carbs. What ends up in your cup is essentially carb-free.

This is true across our entire lineup:

Pure Teas — Cloud Kissed Darjeeling, Naturally Noir, Make It Hot Earl Grey, Dragon's Charm Oolong, Wicked Green, and Witch's Whisper are single-origin or simply flavored teas. Zero carb sources beyond the tea leaf itself.

Herb & Spice Blends — Nocturnal Enchantment, Hex The Cold, Brains, Solar Spell, Divine Goddess Infusion, Familiar Organic Catnip, and Yerba Zen are made entirely from herbs, flowers, and spices. Nothing in these blends contributes meaningful carbohydrates to your cup.

Spiced Chai — Corpse Riser Chai is a bold mix of cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, coriander, cloves, allspice, black pepper, and black tea. All spices, no sugar, no fruit — zero carbs in the cup.

What About Our Fruit and Chocolate Blends?

A few of our blends do contain ingredients with natural carbohydrates — dried fruits and chocolate chips. But here's the key: those carbs stay in the solids, not in your steeped liquid.

Bert's Chocolate Chai — Rooibos, ginger, green cardamom, chocolate chips, and natural chocolate flavoring. The chocolate chips soften during steeping and release flavor, but the sugars and cocoa solids largely remain in the chips themselves. A steeped cup contains well under 1g of carbs. (Contains soy lecithin.)

Crimson Zing — Hibiscus, currant fruit, rose hips, elderberries, cranberries, rooibos, and natural flavoring. The dried fruits give this blend its stunning crimson color and tart punch, but the fruit pieces retain their carbohydrates. What steeps out is flavor, vitamin C, and antioxidants — not sugar.

Lady Vane's Ruby Zest — Rooibos, cranberries, orange peel, hibiscus, and natural fruit flavoring. Same principle — the cranberries and orange peel add brightness to the cup without adding meaningful carbs.

Zelda's Apricot Glow — Marigold petals, cinnamon chips, apricot pieces, and natural apricot flavoring. The apricot pieces contribute aroma and a hint of sweetness, but the carbohydrates stay behind in the fruit.

Vasilisa's Winter Dream — Black tea, orange peel, cinnamon chips, apple pieces, rose petals, and natural fruit and spice flavoring. The apple and orange pieces add a cozy, baked-goods aroma without contributing significant carbs to the steeped cup.

The One Exception: Matcha

Spellbound Dust Japanese Matcha is unique in our collection because you're whisking the whole tea leaf into water and drinking it — nothing gets strained out. Even so, a typical 1g serving of matcha contains only about 0.3g of carbs, which rounds to zero on the nutrition label.

We Never Add Sugar

None of our blends contain added sugar — ever. Two of our tisanes, Divine Goddess Infusion and Solar Spell, include a touch of stevia leaf for natural sweetness. Stevia is zero-calorie and zero-carb.

The Bottom Line

Whether you're following a keto, low-carb, or sugar-free lifestyle — or you just want to enjoy a flavorful cup without thinking twice — Witches Brew has you covered. Every blend in our collection is 0g carbs on the label, no added sugar, and full of flavor. Steep a cup and enjoy guilt-free.

Only Camellia sinensis-based drinks are true teas, varieties like green, black, white, oolong, and pu-erh. These contain caffeine. A tisane is made from herbs, flowers, fruits, roots, or spices and is typically caffeine-free.

Black tea: Black tea undergoes full oxidation, resulting in a lower caffeine content compared to white and green tea.

White tea: White tea is minimally processed, retaining the highest caffeine content among teas.

Green tea: Green tea is steamed or pan-fried, preserving a significant amount of caffeine.

Oolong tea: Oolong tea falls in the middle ground, with a moderate caffeine content, varying depending on the specific type and processing method.

Tisanes / Herbal teas: Herbal teas, like chamomile or peppermint, are not derived from the Camellia sinensis plant and are naturally caffeine-free.
